At our July 11, 2012 luncheon, we enjoyed an excellent discussion from Michael Knudsen regarding California government and politics. Michael pointed out that government impacts all areas of our lives and that, in the business world, a thriving organization may at times be influenced more by government structure and efforts than by business competitors. He helped us recognize that we are all associated with “special interest groups” and as a result we are responsible to ensure that government interaction is conducted fairly and justly.
Certain trends in California politics were referenced and developed, including: our unique demographics, the design of our legislature to produce legislation; the realities of a significant partisan imbalance; and the loss of experience through term limits. As a community, we were encouraged to become more active in politics and ensure that our theological, philosophical and moral values are not diminished for lack of appropriate attention and representation.
